Emery urges Villa to keep consistent after win

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery says his team must use their Europa League win as a springboard for future success. Read more about their upcoming match against Fulham.

“We have to try to keep consistent, we had not been consistent until today...”

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery believes their thrilling 1-0 home win over Bologna in the Europa League should serve as a springboard for future success. John McGinn's impressive goal, Villa's first home score of the season, earned Emery's side their maiden victory and provided a much-needed boost after a dismal start that saw them rank 17th in the Premier League and exit the League Cup.

Emery emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum from the win against Bologna, urging his team to build on this success in their upcoming match against Fulham. Despite Ollie Watkins's penalty being saved by Lukasz Skorupski, Emery was pleased with the England international's performance, noting it was a step towards regaining confidence. Villa's Europa League campaign continues next week with an away match against Feyenoord Rotterdam on October 2.

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery emphasized the importance of consistency after their win over Atalanta, saying, “We have to try to keep consistent, we had not been consistent until today.” Villa currently have three draws and two defeats from their five league games. Emery urged his side to build on the momentum from their European win as they host Fulham.

"Today we won and it is important we have to try and keep consistent on Sunday. Different match, different rival, but a lot of things tactically we have to keep on building. Some players have to keep adapting with us and keep progressing.

“Today this win will help us to try and continue working and being positive, but each match coming is a challenge, to fight to try and prepare as best as possible, be demanding with the players.”

Emery's comments highlight the team's inconsistency in their recent performances. With Fulham coming to Villa Park, Emery's side will look to capitalize on their home advantage and secure a win. Fulham, on the other hand, will aim to cause an upset against the hosts.

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins saw his penalty saved by Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski, extending his goal drought to 10 games. Despite the miss, manager Unai Emery expressed satisfaction with Watkins' overall performance, noting it was a step towards regaining confidence for the England international. Emery's comments suggest he's looking beyond the immediate result and focusing on the positives from Watkins' display.

“He worked today like he is (confident) and this is the first step to recover confidence,« he added.

“Then he had a penalty and he created chances as well, but the most important is to recover confidence and do your tasks like he did today. Today was the first step and he did fantastic.
