Gabriela Dabrowski and her doubles partner Erin Routliffe have achieved an incredible feat, winning the US Open women's doubles title for the second time. Their journey to this victory was marked by significant challenges, including Dabrowski's breast cancer diagnosis in 2024. Despite undergoing two surgeries and taking a three-month break, Dabrowski persevered and returned to tennis, showcasing her determination and resilience.


Dabrowski and Routliffe faced numerous hurdles, including injuries that affected their performance. Routliffe suffered a rib fracture due to excessive coughing from bronchitis, while Dabrowski experienced a similar injury earlier in the year. Despite these setbacks, the duo demonstrated remarkable teamwork and chemistry, ultimately triumphing over top seeds Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova with a score of 6-4, 6-4.


Their victory was made even more special by the presence of loved ones and their coaching team, making the moment truly unforgettable.


The US Open women's doubles title win earned Dabrowski and Routliffe a significant prize of $1 million, split between them. Dabrowski jokingly mentioned planning to serve charcuterie on the trophy, highlighting the lighthearted and celebratory atmosphere surrounding their achievement.


Gabriela Dabrowski's remarkable journey is a testament to her strength and resilience. After being diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2024, she underwent two surgeries and radiation treatments, all while continuing to compete at the highest level. Her determination paid off when she won the Olympic bronze medal in mixed doubles with Felix Auger-Aliassime in Paris and later claimed the WTA Tour Finals title with Erin Routliffe in Riyadh.




Dabrowski's road to recovery wasn't without its setbacks. She fractured a rib earlier this year, an injury that mirrored Routliffe's own health struggle from excessive coughing due to bronchitis. This forced them to miss the French Open, a tough blow to their momentum. Despite these challenges, Dabrowski has shown remarkable adaptability, adjusting her training and recovery to manage her health while still competing.


Dabrowski's experience has profoundly shifted her perspective on tennis and life. “There are bigger problems in life than winning a tennis match,” she said, reflecting on her journey. Winning still feels great, but it's no longer the be-all and end-all. Dabrowski's cancer diagnosis has taught her to appreciate the fragility of life and the importance of health, giving her a new sense of gratitude for every moment on the court.

It was crazy, honestly,” Dabrowski said, reflecting on their journey.

“I think that's a testament to our work ethic and everything that we put in on court, off the court, with each other as friends too to, you know, keep the chemistry going.


“I think it's all culminated kind of into this moment. Yeah, I mean, I felt already really proud of us, I would say, at the end of last year in Riyadh, winning the WTA Finals. That kind of felt similar today, similar vibe.


“We have so many of our loved ones here today, and our coaching team has been phenomenal. To share it with everyone is just so special.”


Taylor Townsend and her Czech partner Katerina Siniakova were on a mission to claim their third Grand Slam doubles title together, following their Australian Open win earlier this year. However, their US Open dreams were dashed by Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe, who won the women's doubles final 6-4, 6-4.


Townsend expressed her desire to win, saying, “Of course I wanted to win and have the trophy.” Though she didn't get to keep the trophy, she jokingly mentioned plans to repurpose the runners-up silverware, stating, “I'm probably going to do a charcuterie board on this trophy, but - that would be pretty cool, right, to be served charcuterie on a US Open platter?”
