Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe Claim US Open Doubles Crown

US Open Women's Doubles Title

Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe win the US Open women's doubles title, defeating Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend 6-4, 6-4.

“Erin, what a wild ride... We've been through so much together, and I feel extremely grateful to be standing here as a champion alongside you today...”

Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe made history by winning the US Open women's doubles title for the second time in three years. The Canadian-Kiwi duo dominated top seeds Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend, winning the match 6-4, 6-4. This victory marks a triumphant return to form for Dabrowski, who battled breast cancer in 2024 and underwent two surgeries and radiation therapy.

Dabrowski's path to recovery has been remarkable. Diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2024, she continued to compete while undergoing treatment. Her partnership with Routliffe has been instrumental in her success, and the duo has shown incredible resilience in the face of adversity. They've played through injuries, including fractured ribs from excessive coughing due to bronchitis, and Dabrowski's ongoing endocrine therapy.

In the final, Dabrowski and Routliffe played with precision, outmaneuvering Siniakova and Townsend with 26 winners and nine unforced errors. The match was a testament to their partnership, which has yielded impressive results despite the challenges they've faced. Dabrowski praised Routliffe, saying, “Erin, what a wild ride... We've been through so much together, and I feel extremely grateful to be standing here as a champion alongside you today.”

Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend's momentum from winning the Australian Open earlier this year seemed to stall as they faced stiff competition. Although they won the Australian Open title, beating Su-Wei Hsieh and Jelena Ostapenko 6-2, 6-7, 6-3, their recent match didn't reflect their earlier form. Siniakova and Townsend struggled to break down their opponents' defenses, particularly in a feisty second set where momentum shifted.

The US Open women's doubles competition was memorable, thanks in part to Venus Williams' surprise run to the quarterfinals. The 45-year-old tennis star teamed up with Leylah Fernandez, and their partnership captivated audiences. Despite being wildcard entries, they didn't drop a set throughout the tournament and even defeated two seeded pairs. Their quarterfinal match against top seeds Siniakova and Townsend promises to be an exciting encounter. Venus Williams' presence drew large crowds, including an impressive turnout for the midday final at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
