Ange Postecoglou has been appointed as the new manager of Nottingham Forest, replacing Nuno Espirito Santo who was sacked late Monday night. The 60-year-old Australian coach has signed a contract until June 2027 and will oversee Forest's match against Arsenal on Saturday. Postecoglou's appointment comes after a reported breakdown in relationship between Nuno and Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Postecoglou's Profile:

  • Experience: Postecoglou has a wealth of experience, having coached in Australia, Japan, and Scotland, winning numerous titles including the UEFA Europa League with Tottenham Hotspur last season.
  • Track Record: He has a proven record of winning trophies, including league titles in Australia, Japan, and Scotland.
  • Playing Style: Postecoglou is known for his attacking style of football, which is expected to bring excitement and creativity to Forest's games.

Nottingham Forest's Expectations:

Competing with the Best: Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis believes Postecoglou has the credentials and track record to compete with the very best and challenge for trophies.

European Success: Postecoglou's Europa League win with Tottenham makes him a promising candidate to repeat European success with Forest.

Ambitious Journey: Marinakis expressed excitement about Postecoglou joining Forest on their ambitious journey, aiming to consistently achieve all their ambitions.

“We are bringing a coach to the Club who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies,” said owner Evangelos Marinakis.

“His experience of coaching teams at the highest level, along with his desire to build something special with us at Forest, makes him a fantastic person to help us on our journey and achieve consistently all our ambitions.

“After gaining promotion to the Premier League, then building consistently season after season to secure European football, we now must take the right step to compete with the very best and challenge for trophies. Ange has the credentials and the track record to do this, and we are excited he is joining us on our ambitious journey.”

Tottenham's decision to part ways with Ange Postecoglou on June 7th came as a shock, especially after he led the team to Europa League glory in May, securing a Champions League spot for the upcoming season. Despite this triumph, Postecoglou's second season was marred by injuries and consistency issues, culminating in a disappointing 17th-place finish in the Premier League. This led chairman Daniel Levy to bring in Thomas Frank from Brentford as his successor, despite Postecoglou's impressive first season.

Postecoglou's Legacy at Spurs:

Europa League Triumph: Postecoglou's biggest achievement was guiding Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years, winning the Europa League final against Manchester United 1-0.

Inconsistent League Form: Despite the European success, Spurs struggled in the Premier League, finishing 17th and losing 22 games.

Levy's Decision: Daniel Levy explained that the decision to sack Postecoglou was collective and based on the team's need to compete in all competitions, not just Europe.

Postecoglou has now taken the reins at Nottingham Forest, where he'll face new challenges. His first game in charge will be against Arsenal on September 14th, followed by a Europa League match against Real Betis later this month. Forest's owner, Evangelos Marinakis, is known for his public outbursts and high turnover of managers, which may pose a challenge for Postecoglou.
