Jessica Pegula cruised into the US Open quarterfinals with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win over fellow American Ann Li on Sunday. She played with ruthless efficiency, closing out the match in under an hour on Arthur Ashe Stadium. This marks her third time reaching the quarterfinals and second consecutive year doing so.
Pegula had a shaky start to the season, exiting early from Washington, Montreal, and Cincinnati. However, she's yet to drop a set in New York, showcasing her impressive form. She hit a dozen winners from the baseline, demonstrating her power and precision. “I felt really comfortable moving today,” Pegula said. “I felt like today I started off really well and I just wanted to keep executing that.”
In the match, Li struggled to hold her serve, managing only two successful holds out of eight attempts. Pegula capitalized on Li's 19 unforced errors, dominating the game with her strong baseline play. This win extends Pegula's streak of 15 consecutive matches won against players outside the top 50 at the US Open.
Pegula's next opponent will be either Barbora Krejcikova or Taylor Townsend. Given her current form, she's looking formidable as she aims to progress further in the tournament.

Jessica Pegula dominated Ann Li in their US Open match, employing the same strategy that worked in their Roland Garros round-two meeting earlier this year. Pegula got off to a strong start at Arthur Ashe Stadium, winning the first three games. Li finally broke through in the fourth game with a baseline winner, but Pegula quickly regained momentum by converting a break point in the fifth game.
Pegula's strong play continued as she maintained her lead, ultimately winning the first set 6-1. Li struggled to find her rhythm, and Pegula capitalized on her opponent's mistakes to seal the win. In the end, Pegula emerged victorious with a 6-1, 6-2 scoreline, advancing to the US Open quarterfinals.

Ann Li's errors handed Jessica Pegula opportunities to take control of the match. Li's backhand error in the seventh game of the first set gave Pegula a chance to build momentum. Li then sent another shot past the baseline on break point, allowing Pegula to take a firm lead in the second set.
Pegula sealed her victory with a stunning backhand winner down the line, shouting in celebration as she clinched the match 6-1, 6-2. This impressive shot showcased her skill and power, propelling her to her first major quarterfinal of the year. The win marked a strong performance by Pegula, who dominated the match with her precise baseline play.
