Thomas Thomasberg has been appointed as the new coach of Pogoń Szczecin, a month after being sacked from his role at FC Midtjylland. The 50-year-old Danish coach has signed a three-year contract with the Polish club, which currently sits in 13th place in the Ekstraklasa league table.

Thomasberg boasts an impressive resume, having won the Danish championship and cup with FC Midtjylland and Randers FC. He's known for his pragmatic approach to the game, often favoring a 4-4-2 formation. Despite his team's strong performance, which included 18 consecutive unbeaten matches, Thomasberg was surprisingly let go by FC Midtjylland due to stylistic differences.

With his extensive experience in Danish football and European competitions, Thomasberg's appointment is seen as a significant boost to Pogoń Szczecin. He'll be working alongside two of his own assistants while other staff members will remain in place. The club's vice-president, Tan Kesler, confirmed the signing, expressing optimism about Thomasberg's potential to elevate the team.

The Danish Superliga coach was dismissed from FC Midtjylland on August 27, yet he went on to lead the team in two more games before Mike Tullberg took over. With a background in coaching Hjorring, Hobro, and Randers, this coach from Mejrup near Holstebro is now set to take on his first head coaching role abroad.

Pogon Szczecin currently sits in 14th place in the Polish Ekstraklasa standings, not 13th, with 9 points from 10 matches, having won 3, drawn 1, and lost 6. After parting ways with their head coach two weeks ago, the team's interim coach has indeed struggled, losing both games under his leadership.

The new coach's task will be to turn things around for Pogon Szczecin, who have only managed to score 14 goals while conceding 19 in the league so far. Key players like Efthimios Koulouris, with 7 goals, and Kamil Grosicki, with 3 goals, will be crucial in their upcoming matches.

Szczecin, a city of around 400,000 inhabitants in northern Poland near the German border, is set to welcome its new coach, Thomas Thomasberg. The 50-year-old Danish coach will be formally introduced at a press conference later on Tuesday.

Following the press conference, Thomasberg will lead his first training session with Pogoń Szczecin, marking the beginning of his tenure as the team's new head coach. With a strong background in Danish football, Thomasberg's appointment aims to revitalize the team, which currently sits in 13th place in the Ekstraklasa league table.

On Friday evening, Thomasberg and Pogon Szczecin will try to reverse the negative streak of three successive league defeats when the team takes on the bottom team Piast in the prime Polish league.

In the first ten league games, the Polish team has conceded six defeats.

Pogon lost their most recent match 0-1 away to Legia Warsaw, where Danish striker Mileta Rajovic turned into match match-winner as he converted a penalty after four minutes.

Upcoming Matches:

Thomasberg will be presented at a press conference on Tuesday and will lead his first training session with the team. Pogoń Szczecin is set to face Piast in their next match, aiming to end their three-game losing streak.
