FC Porto's director of football, Jorge Costa, has died at 53 after suffering a cardiac arrest. The incident occurred at the team's training ground on Tuesday morning while Costa was attending a first-team training session.


Costa collapsed due to a cardiac arrest, and despite efforts, he passed away. The club and the football community are mourning the loss of the renowned figure.


Jorge Costa's passing was confirmed later that afternoon at São João Hospital in Porto. FC Porto released a statement expressing deep sadness and shock at the loss of the football legend.


The club described Costa as an “inescapable figure” in Porto's history, embodying the values of dedication, leadership, passion, and a winning spirit. He left an indelible mark on the club, influencing generations of fans and becoming a symbol of Porto.

According to Correio da Manhã, when Costa suffered the cardiac arrest, the club's medical team provided immediate assistance, even using a defibrillator in an attempt to revive him.


Moments before his cardiac arrest, Jorge Costa had been speaking to SportTV, highlighting the strong bond between FC Porto and its fans.


 


This incident marks the second time Costa has faced heart issues, following a heart attack in 2022, shortly after stepping down as coach of Sfaxien. He had undergone a catheterization procedure and made a successful recovery.
