Manchester United has confirmed the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a five-year deal, with the option to extend his contract by an additional year. Cunha's transfer was facilitated by triggering his £62.5 million release clause.


The 26-year-old striker expressed his excitement, stating that joining Manchester United is a childhood dream come true. “Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother's house, United was my favorite English team, and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt,” Cunha said.




Cunha's signing marks a significant addition to Manchester United's attacking lineup, which struggled to score goals throughout the previous season. United's director of football, Jason Wilcox, highlighted that acquiring Cunha was a top priority for the club, praising his abilities as a dynamic and exciting player capable of contributing to the team's success.


As Ruben Amorim's first signing of the summer, Cunha's arrival is expected to bolster the team's attacking options. He will compete with existing forwards, bringing his predatory instincts and creative skills to the team. Cunha has had an impressive career, scoring 17 goals in all competitions for Wolves last season and helping Brazil qualify for the World Cup.




“It's hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player,” Cunha said.

Matheus Cunha joined Manchester United from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a five-year deal, with the option to extend by an additional year. The transfer was facilitated by triggering his £62.5 million release clause.


The 26-year-old Brazilian forward has an impressive record with Wolves, scoring 33 goals and providing 15 assists in 92 appearances. Notably, he scored 15 Premier League goals last season. Cunha recently contributed to Brazil's World Cup qualification with a crucial assist in a 1-0 win over Paraguay.

The transfer of Matheus Cunha to Manchester United is a record sale for Wolverhampton Wanderers, surpassing the £53 million they received for midfielder Matheus Nunes when he joined Manchester City in 2023.


The signing comes as Manchester United looks to improve on last season's 15th-place finish in the Premier League, where they accumulated 42 points.
