Real Madrid has officially announced the signing of 17-year-old Argentine playmaker Franco Mastantuono from River Plate on a six-year contract, set to join the club in August 2025. The young attacking midfielder is considered one of the best young talents in world football, with a record-breaking transfer fee in Argentine football history, reportedly around €63 million ($72 million).

“At 17, he is also the youngest player to play an official match for the Argentina national team in its history.” Franco Mastantuono made his national team debut earlier this month against Chile in a World Cup 2026 qualifier.
“Mastantuono executed his release fee clause, along with Real Madrid,” River Plate explained, revealing the deal earns them €45 million, with the rest going largely to taxes.
“Thank you, Franco, for your performance and talent, it has been a pride to see you grow at the club,” the statement continued.
“We wish you all the best in this new era, which comes after the Club World Cup.”
Franco Mastantuono rose through River Plate's academy, making his first-team debut in January 2024.
Real Madrid's Summer Signings
He's Real Madrid's third signing this summer, following Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen. The club also appointed Xabi Alonso as their new coach after Carlo Ancelotti's departure.
