Postecoglou Unfazed as Tottenham Reach Europa League Final
Tottenham secures a spot in the Europa League final after a 2-0 win over Bodo/Glimt. Manager Ange Postecoglou is set for a showdown with Manchester United, with the winner earning a Champions League spot for next season.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou believes his team deserves a spot in the Europa League final. Despite some potentially being upset by a Tottenham and Manchester United final, Postecoglou is unfazed.
Tottenham secured their place in the final with a 2-0 win over Bodo/Glimt, finishing with a 5-1 aggregate victory. A win in the final would give the North London club their first trophy since 2008, salvaging a difficult season.
A Tottenham or Manchester United win in the Europa League final would reward the victor with a Champions League spot for next season, despite both teams' mid-table Premier League finishes.
This prize has sparked debate, with Arsene Wenger recently arguing that Europa League winners shouldn't earn a Champions League place. Postecoglou has pushed back against Wenger's view.
“I mean, who cares if we're struggling in the league? Why is that important? If it's so easy to get to a final, then why doesn't everyone who finishes in the top three do it?
“We understand our league form hasn't been great. We understand the struggles we've had. A lot of them are because of the situation we've been in. But how does that diminish the achievement of getting to a final?
“I couldn't care less who's struggling and who's not. I think both us and United have earned the right to be there.”
Tottenham's European form has starkly contrasted with their Premier League struggles. In the Europa League, they've won 9 of 14 matches, losing just 2.
In their win over Bodo/Glimt, Tottenham adopted a pragmatic approach, ditching their riskier style that has plagued them this season. This disciplined display echoed their 1-0 quarterfinal win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Tottenham nullified Bodo/Glimt, preventing the Norwegian side from scoring for the first time since October. Despite Bodo/Glimt's impressive run, which included wins over Porto, Besiktas, and Lazio at home, Tottenham's disciplined approach paid off.
“I love winning. That's what I've done my whole career,” Postecoglou said. ”I love the way the boys clearly understood what we needed to do tonight.”
“The key thing for us was not to allow them to get any sort of rhythm in their game. We never allowed them really to get into our half with any sort of clean possession. It's a credit to the boys that they understood what the task was tonight.”
Bodo/Glimt fell short, failing to become the first Norwegian side to reach a European final.
“Tottenham deserve it and were much better than us,” Bodo/Glimt manager Kjetil Knutsen said. “They are really good in the press; how they press a lot one against one and use time when they need to use time... I really feel we were not in the game at all.”
