Dhoni Steers Chennai to Thrilling Win Over Kolkata
Chennai Super Kings edge past Kolkata Knight Riders by two wickets in a thrilling IPL match, thanks to Dewald Brevis' 52 and MS Dhoni's finishing touch, leaving KKR's playoff hopes hanging by a thread.
Dewald Brevis shone as Chennai Super Kings edged past Kolkata Knight Riders by two wickets in a thrilling IPL match. Brevis smashed a 22-ball fifty, propelling Chennai to a nail-biting win at Eden Gardens.
Chennai Super Kings faced a tough target of 180 but stumbled to 60-5 in the sixth over. Brevis, however, orchestrated a remarkable turnaround, scoring 52 runs. Shivam Dube, who came in as an impact substitute, chipped in with a crucial 45 runs, guiding Chennai to victory with two balls to spare. This win puts Kolkata Knight Riders' playoff hopes in jeopardy.

MS Dhoni sealed Chennai's win with a six when eight runs were needed off the last over, finishing unbeaten on 17. Anshul Kamboj hit the winning four off Andre Russell, leaving Kolkata's playoff hopes precarious.
Kolkata's Ajinkya Rahane acknowledged the tough loss, saying, “It was really tough. We were 10-15 short, 185-195 would have been an ideal total. The bowlers bowled really well but tough to be on the losing side.”
Kolkata Knight Riders' Ajinkya Rahane outlined his team's path forward, saying, “Pretty simple. Try to win two out of two, and then see what happens from there.” Rahane's team needs a couple of wins and favorable results elsewhere to revive their playoff hopes.
Chennai Super Kings, already eliminated from playoff contention, played with nothing to lose. Noor Ahmad's four wickets restricted Kolkata to 179-6, but Chennai's lower order fought back. After early setbacks, Urvil Patel (31 off 11 balls) and Dewald Brevis (52) led the charge, with Brevis and Shivam Dube (45) putting together a crucial stand to seal the win.

Dewald Brevis initially struggled to find his rhythm but then unleashed a stunning 30 runs off Vaibhav Arora, reaching his fifty with a memorable over that included three sixes and three fours.
Varun Chakravarthy eventually curbed Brevis' attack, but Shivam Dube formed a crucial partnership with MS Dhoni, keeping Chennai's chase alive and setting the stage for their thrilling win.

Vaibhav Arora dismissed Shivam Dube as Rinku Singh took a stunning catch, and later got Noor Ahmad out. However, MS Dhoni and Anshul Kamboj saw Chennai through to victory, marking just their third win in 12 matches.
Dhoni remained a massive draw for the Kolkata crowd, despite Kolkata's struggles. The 43-year-old former India captain downplayed talk of retirement, saying, “A lot of them don't know when it is going to be my last time, so they want to come and see me play.”

MS Dhoni reflected on his future plans after IPL, saying, “After this IPL is over, I have to work hard for another six to eight months to see if my body can take this pressure. (There's) Nothing to decide now but the love and affection I have seen is excellent.”
Kolkata's innings got off to a shaky start as Rahmanullah Gurbaz fell early. Sunil Narine (26) and Ajinkya Rahane (48) rebuilt the innings with a 58-run partnership. Noor Ahmad broke the stand with his left-arm wrist spin, getting Narine stumped by Dhoni and later dismissing Angkrish Raghuvanshi. Rahane fell short of a fifty, dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja's left-arm spin, as he attempted a reverse sweep.
Noor Ahmad claimed the player of the match award after removing Rinku Singh for 9. Despite Manish Pandey's presence, Kolkata's total ultimately proved insufficient.
Noor finished with 20 wickets in 12 matches, tied with Gujarat Titans' Prasidh Krishna, who achieved the same tally in 11 matches.
