Denmark secured a crucial 6-3 win over Norway, bitter rivals, in the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships. This victory marked Denmark's third win in four days, drawing them level with Germany and boosting their chances of reaching the quarter-finals.

The win has reignited the host nation's hopes of a quarter-final spot, after initially losing their first three matches. Meanwhile, Norway's struggles continue, with just one point and a precarious position at the bottom of Group B. They face a must-win match against Hungary on Monday night to avoid relegation.

Denmark's fortunes improved with the contribution of Jonas Rondbjerg, who scored two goals on his tournament debut. The team's discipline proved decisive, as they capitalized on Norway's costly two-penalty infractions. Despite historically struggling to beat Norway, Denmark's ruthless play paid off in this matchup.

Denmark's power play proved effective, with goals from Oscar Moelgaard, Mikkel Aargaard, Joachim Blichfeld, and Nick Olesen securing a commanding lead. Norway's Eirik Salsten, Jakob Berglund, and Thomas Olsen scored in response, but it wasn't enough to catch up.

A win against Germany on Tuesday would now send Denmark to the knockout rounds for the first time since 2016, a significant achievement for the hosts.

Denmark's captain, Jesper Jensen Aabo, is thrilled with the team's turnaround. “Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps. That was the final we wanted before the tournament started,” he said, reflecting on their progress.

Aabo added, “As far as I know, we've got everything in our own hands, and that feels great at home against Germany, our neighbour. It's going to be fun. I'm excited!” A win against Germany would put Denmark in the knockout rounds for the first time since 2016.
