Tauson initially broke Volynets in the first game, but the momentum shifted back and forth.


Volynets rallied from 0-2 to 5-3, putting her close to taking the set. However, Tauson regrouped, stringing together strong points to break back to 4-5 and then 6-5. After a grueling 78 minutes, Tauson sealed the first set.




Tauson carried her momentum into the second set, breaking early after a fortunate net roll provided break opportunities. She capitalized with a powerful forehand winner.


Tauson fended off three break points in the second game, holding on to maintain her 2-0 lead. However, Volynets struggled with a left arm injury, requiring treatment on court.


Despite her injury, Volynets continued playing, but Tauson sensed victory, nearly breaking her opponent's serve to go 4-1 up. Ultimately, Volynets chose to retire rather than continue.
