Brugge Edges Anderlecht 2-1 to Win Belgian Cup
Club Brugge wins record-extending 12th Belgian Cup title after 2-1 victory over Anderlecht, thanks to Romeo Vermant's double.
Club Brugge secured a record-extending 12th Belgian Cup title after Romeo Vermant's two goals led them to a 2-1 victory over Anderlecht. Vermant, 21, scored on either side of halftime, keeping Brugge's league and cup double hopes alive. Anderlecht managed a late consolation goal through Luis Vazquez but couldn't change the outcome.
Vermant's goals showcased his skill, first converting Hugo Siquet's cross in the 40th minute and then doubling the lead in the 61st minute with a precise finish from Christos Tzolis' near-post cross. This win is significant for Club Brugge as they chase success in both the league and cup competitions.

Hugo Siquet's 40th-minute cross from the right wing found its way to the back post, where Vermant outmuscled defender Ali Maamar to head home the opening goal. Vermant scored his second in the 61st minute, reacting quickly to Christos Tzolis' cross and expertly steering the ball home with a precise touch.
Anderlecht, having fallen out of contention for the league title, were chasing their 10th cup victory, with their last triumph dating back to 2008.

Anderlecht pulled one back in stoppage time through Luis Vazquez, who scored an easy finish after Samuel Edozie, on loan from Southampton, stole possession and laid the ball back for him.
The win marked Brugge's first Belgian Cup title in 10 years, with their last victory coming in 2015 when they also beat Anderlecht 2-1 in the final.
The match was delayed by five minutes due to fireworks being let off by spectators. Additionally, clashes between supporters occurred in Brussels' city center before the match, resulting in an Anderlecht fan being hospitalized in serious condition after a firework exploded in his hand, according to media reports. The incident happened away from the stadium as fans were preparing to walk to the venue.
