Rune Ends Ruud's Title Defense in Barcelona

Holger Rune delivered an impressive performance to defeat defending champion Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-2 in the Barcelona quarterfinals. After withdrawing from the Monte Carlo Masters due to stomach pain, Rune showcased his skills, dominating Ruud in a one-sided match.


Rune got off to a strong start, breaking Ruud's serve twice to take a 4-0 lead. Despite the scoreline, the games were closely contested, but Rune excelled in decisive moments. The win marked a significant upset, given Ruud's past success against Rune, who had lost six of their seven previous encounters.


Casper Ruud recovered from his poor start, breaking Holger Rune's serve to narrow the gap to 3-4 in the first set. However, Rune regained control and closed out the set 6-4 with a strong performance. In the second set, Rune continued his dominance, breaking Ruud's serve early and extending his lead to 5-1.


Ruud managed to win a couple of games, but Rune remained in control, eventually closing out the match 6-4, 6-2. Despite a brief wobble at 0-30 down in the eighth game, Rune composed himself, winning four straight points to seal the victory.




Rune will face world number 27 Karen Khachanov in the semi-finals, marking their first-ever meeting. Khachanov secured his spot with a win over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
