“I have been in the USA for 20 months, and 16 people have already invaded the pitch. I am not the problem. Let me help Messi.” pic.twitter.com/mxL8ngGFoR
Cheuko's presence at Messi's side has been well-documented, with social media videos showcasing his intense focus on the crowd as he works to prevent potential pitch invaders from reaching the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner. His dedication to ensuring Messi's safety has earned him widespread recognition.
Major League Soccer (MLS) has taken steps to assume full control of matchday security, which will impact Lionel Messi's bodyguard, Yassine Cheuko. As a result of this decision, Cheuko will only be allowed access to the locker room and mixed zones, restricting his ability to provide close protection to Messi during matches.
Cheuko expressed his concerns about the new arrangement, stating, “They don't allow me to be on the field anymore.” He drew on his experience working in European football, highlighting the difference in pitch invasion incidents between the two continents. “I was in Europe for seven years, working for Ligue 1 and the Champions League, and only six people invaded the pitch. I came to the USA and in just 20 months, 16 people have already done so. There's a huge problem here, let me help Messi,” Cheuko emphasized, stressing the need for his expertise in ensuring Messi's safety.
