The Johor state government has declared a public holiday to celebrate Johor Darul Ta'zim's (JDT) Malaysia Cup final berth. Get the latest updates on the team's quest for a third consecutive treble.

The Johor state government has declared a public holiday on Monday to celebrate Johor Darul Ta'zim's (JDT) recent achievement of reaching the Malaysia Cup final. JDT will face Sri Pahang in the final at Bukit Jalil Stadium.

JDT is aiming for a third consecutive treble after already winning the Super League and FA Cup. In contrast, Sri Pahang is seeking its first domestic trophy since claiming the FA Cup in 2018. The highly anticipated match is expected to draw significant attention from football fans across the country.

Johor Chief Minister Onn Hafiz bin Ghazi declared a public holiday in a bid to rally fans for the upcoming cup final. This move comes after the match had faced sluggish ticket sales last week. However, ticket sales have surged since the announcement, with local media reporting that 60% of seats have been sold.

The Malaysian Football League aims to fill at least 80% of the 85,500-capacity National Stadium in Bukit Jalil. “With four Malaysia Cup titles already secured in 2017, 2019, 2022, and 2023, the mission for a fifth championship is now within reach,” Bin Ghazi said. “Come on, Southern Tigers supporters - let's flood the Bukit Jalil National Stadium to show our full support and become the 12th man for this match. May victory be with JDT.”

Johor Chief Minister Onn Hafiz bin Ghazi invited JDT fans to a grand celebration event at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on Sunday. This event marks the club's historic 11th consecutive Malaysian Super League title win.

Meanwhile, MFL acting CEO Mohd Shazli Shaik Mohd attributed the recent surge in ticket sales for the Malaysia Cup final to strong promotional efforts by both JDT and Sri Pahang. These efforts included a lucky draw with prizes such as motorcycles, iPhones, and Apple Watches.

In related news, Malaysia's Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has called for a comprehensive overhaul of the country's football ecosystem. She has also requested the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to conduct an assessment of Malaysian football to identify areas for improvement.
