Kasper Schmeichel Sidelined for Up to Six Weeks, Says Celtic Manager Brendan Rodgers
Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is set to miss up to six weeks of action due to a shoulder injury sustained during Denmark's Nations League clash.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel could be sidelined for up to six weeks. In an interview with Celtic TV, as reported by (link unavailable), Rodgers stated, ”We have received news and we have to look over the next five to six weeks. That is what has been mentioned.”
Rodgers provided further insight into Schmeichel's injury, saying, “We are looking at it day by day, but the timeframe that has been given is around that period. Kasper himself does not think it will last that long, but in the near future, he is certainly not available.” Despite the initial prognosis, Schmeichel is optimistic about his recovery, telling Rodgers that he is confident he will return in time for a potential Scottish Cup final appearance on May 24.
In Schmeichel's absence, backup goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo made an impressive league debut against Hearts, keeping a clean sheet in Celtic's comfortable home victory.

Kasper Schmeichel suffered an injury during Denmark's Nations League clash in Lisbon earlier in the month, landing awkwardly and experiencing severe pain. The following day, on April 24, Danish national team doctor Morten Boesen provided an update on Schmeichel's condition, stating, “Kasper Schmeichel's left shoulder was X-rayed last night, and fortunately, the images didn't show anything abnormal.”
Although the initial X-ray results were reassuring, Boesen noted that Schmeichel was still in pain and required further examination. “He is obviously in pain after a fall on his shoulder, so we are examining him further with an MRI scan,” Boesen explained at the time. The results of the MRI scan have now revealed that Schmeichel is facing a prolonged period on the sidelines.
Celtic's upcoming schedule is packed, with two games remaining in the regular season, followed by five playoff matches in the Scottish league, and potentially, the Scottish Cup final on May 24. Schmeichel's injury has dealt a significant blow to the team, but the goalkeeper remains hopeful that he will recover in time for the Cup final.
