Josh Lord Awaits Super Rugby Return
Josh Lord overcomes injury challenges, rejoins Waikato Chiefs, and eyes strong performance in Super Rugby Pacific playoffs and upcoming All Blacks tests.
Josh Lord, the Waikato Chiefs lock, is looking to revive his All Blacks career after a string of injuries. The 24-year-old had a promising start to his international career, debuting for New Zealand in 2021 under coach Ian Foster.
Lord's progress has been hindered by a series of knee problems, disrupting his momentum and forcing him to rebuild his form. A recent 55-minute stint against Western Force gave him hope for his upcoming Super Rugby return.
Sam Lord isn't mentioned; it’s actually Sam Cane facing challenges after discovering a torn meniscus during Super Rugby Pacific. Fortunately, the injury doesn't require surgery.
Despite the setbacks, Cane remains optimistic, saying, “You've got to stay positive. You can't dwell on it too long.”

Being injured quite a bit, Josh Lord has learned from experience, noting, "you can't let it get you down and, obviously, there are always lights at the end of the tunnel." He recently played for 55 minutes against Western Force, giving him momentum ahead of the Chiefs' crucial matches.
A fit Josh Lord would be a significant boost for the Chiefs, who currently top the table. With five rounds left before the playoffs, they'll face the Wellington Hurricanes away, competing closely with the Canterbury Crusaders, who are level on points. Lord's return could also remind All Blacks selectors of his capabilities ahead of the July tests against France.
”I think it’s always at the back of the mind, to put your hand up for national honours later on, right?” he said.
“For me at the moment, it’s just been about staying healthy, getting on to the field and playing consistent footy for the Chiefs.
“If I do that, I feel like I put myself in good stead for the future higher honours maybe, but I’ll just take it week by week from now.”
