Maple Leafs Dominate Hurricanes to Near Division Title
The Toronto Maple Leafs delivered a strong performance in a 4-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes, crucial for division standings. Pontus Holmberg scored late in the first period to give Toronto the lead, and Auston Matthews doubled the advantage midway through the second period. Despite outshooting the Leafs 52-35, Carolina struggled to capitalize on chances. William Nylander made it 3-0 just 85 seconds into the third period, and although Sebastian Aho scored for the Hurricanes with 12 minutes left, John Tavares sealed the win with a fourth goal for Toronto. Jan Rutta tied the game again in the second period, but Yegor Sharangovich put the Flames ahead for good early in the third. Matt Coronato extended the lead midway through the period, and Sharangovich added an empty-net goal late on.
