Boca Juniors Coach Fernando Gago Quits After Superclasico Loss
Fernando Gago leaves Boca Juniors after just six months in charge following River Plate defeat.
Boca Juniors head coach Fernando Gago has departed the club after a 2-1 loss to River Plate in the Argentine Superclasico. Gago's exit comes just over six months into his tenure, making him the third consecutive manager to leave without securing a trophy.

“This is as far as he goes,” said Mauricio Serna, a member of Boca's governing council. “It hasn't been easy because he's a man of the house, but we're here to make decisions. We're very grateful. He did his job in the best way possible.”
Under Gago, Boca won 17 of 30 matches, and the team suffered an early Copa Libertadores exit, losing to Alianza Lima on penalties in the second round.
Assistant coach Mariano Herron will take over as interim head coach while Boca search for a new manager. Despite Gago's departure, Boca currently top Group A in the Torneo Apertura.
