Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer to Miss Inter Milan Clash

Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer won't play in the Champions League quarterfinal against Inter Milan due to a calf injury.

Bayern Munich's injured goalkeeper Manuel Neuer won't play in Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Inter Milan due to a calf injury. “Manuel Neuer will not play due to injury but will travel to Milan with the team in order to support it,” Bayern said in a statement. Neuer's absence puts pressure on Jonas Urbig, who will start in goal, having struggled with a 56% save percentage and no clean sheets in his first five Bundesliga matches.

Neuer's injury is part of a larger issue for Bayern, with several key players out, including attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala and defenders Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito. This significant handicap may compromise Bayern's prospects for the Champions League. Neuer is expected to return for a potential Champions League semifinal at the end of April, targeting a comeback after the Bundesliga fixture against Mainz on April 26.

The club's injury crisis deepens with Neuer's absence, and Jonas Urbig will deputize in goal. Bayern's sporting director, Max Eberl, had doubts about Neuer's recovery, stating, ”We always hope, but I don’t think so.” Neuer is working on individual rehab, aiming to return for the final stretch of the season.

Manuel Neuer, 39, has been sidelined with a calf muscle injury for over a month, and despite hopes of recovering for the second leg against Inter Milan, he'll miss the game. This setback adds to Bayern Munich's injury woes, with other key players like Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, and Hiroki Ito also out.

Neuer's absence means Jonas Urbig will likely start in goal for Bayern against Inter Milan. The team is facing a tough challenge, but they have momentum in the Bundesliga, leading by six points with five matches left. A win against Inter would boost their confidence and keep their Champions League hopes alive.

The stakes are high, with the winner facing either Barcelona or Borussia Dortmund in the semifinals. Bayern will need to rely on their depth and resilience to overcome the absence of their experienced goalkeeper and other injured players.
