However, a costly mistake almost proved disastrous, as Manu Kone intercepted the ball right in front of Falcone. Fortunately for the hosts, the goalkeeper was on hand to save Kone's point-blank shot. The second half began quietly, but Nikola Krstovic attempted to inject some life into the match with a bold, long-range effort. The ball bounced just wide of Mile Svilar's post, narrowly missing the target.

Wladimiro Falcone was then called upon to make a couple of crucial saves, first stopping Matías Soule's strike from distance and then producing a brilliant reflex save to deny Artem Dovbyk at his near post. The resulting corner led to another scoring opportunity for Roma, but Gianluca Mancini's tapped-in effort at the back post was disallowed due to offside.
