PSG Manager Luis Enrique Confident of Overturning Liverpool Deficit

Luis Enrique believes PSG have nothing to lose in their Champions League clash at Liverpool, making them a dangerous opponent as they seek to come from behind.

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique is optimistic about his team's chances of mounting a Champions League comeback against Liverpool, despite trailing 1-0 from the first leg. Enrique believes that having nothing to lose makes PSG a formidable opponent, and he's looking forward to the challenge.

Enrique's confidence was boosted by PSG's convincing 4-1 win over Stade Rennais on Saturday. The victory marked PSG's sixth successive Ligue 1 win, maintaining their unbeaten record in the domestic league this season. As a result, PSG have provisionally extended their lead over second-placed Olympique de Marseille to 16 points.

Luis Enrique believes that Paris Saint-Germain's 4-1 win over Stade Rennais will provide a much-needed boost to his team's spirits ahead of their crucial Champions League clash against Liverpool on Tuesday. Enrique is confident that his team will be in top shape for the match, saying, “I think we'll be in the best possible shape for the Liverpool game.”

Enrique emphasized that PSG have nothing to lose in the match, which makes them a more formidable opponent. “We've got nothing to lose. Our only objective is victory and that's what we're going for,” he told reporters. Enrique also acknowledged that football is full of surprises, and his team's recent analysis of their first-leg defeat, combined with their win over Rennes, has given them renewed hope. “Football allows for surprises; it is true that we were down and sad after the (first-leg) game but as we have analysed the game and after beating Rennes, which is a difficult team, it makes us hopeful.”

Enrique reiterated that PSG's carefree approach makes them more dangerous. “I repeat, we have nothing to lose, which makes us a more dangerous team than we usually are,” he said. The manager also praised his team's tactical versatility and mental strength, which he believes will be crucial in their quest for titles this season.

Enrique expressed his admiration for his players' competitive spirit, saying, “I have to emphasise the mentality of my players, that all of them, whether they play or not, are competitive and want to fight for everything. It's a pleasure for me to coach them.” He also highlighted PSG's ability to adapt to different situations, stating, “Our strength as a team is that we don't just limit ourselves to one role, we are very good at having the ball in the opposition half but we are also good going deep with the opposition pressing; I like the balance in the team.”

PSG will host Marseille in Ligue 1 next weekend, following their trip to Liverpool on Tuesday.
