The Premier League confirmed the decision in a statement on Thursday. The move comes after FIFA, world football's governing body, announced that member associations of participating clubs would have the option to open an “exceptional registration window” in June. This allows clubs to sign players before the FIFA Club World Cup begins.
The Premier League has announced that the summer transfer window will open early for a limited period. According to a statement released by the Premier League, “The window will open early, between Sunday 1 June and Tuesday 10 June, due to an exceptional registration period relating to the FIFA Club World Cup.”
The transfer window will then close temporarily before reopening on June 16. As stated by the Premier League, “It will then reopen on Monday 16 June and close on Monday 1 September.” This unique schedule is due to the FIFA Club World Cup, which will take place in the United States from June 14 to July 13. Chelsea and Manchester City, the two Premier League teams participating in the tournament, will be able to make signings during the exceptional registration period.
