Marc Marquez secured his third consecutive pole position of the season at the Grand Prix of the Americas on Saturday, setting the fastest time in qualifying. The factory Ducati rider and MotoGP championship leader, who has won a record seven times at the Circuit of the Americas, demonstrated his dominance by reclaiming the top spot in the qualifying session.

Marquez's path to pole was not without challenge, as his brother Alex of Gresini Racing briefly took the top spot with just over a minute left in the session. However, Marc Marquez responded by delivering a lap time of two minutes 1.088 seconds, securing his third straight pole position. This achievement maintained his perfect record this season, despite suffering a crash in practice on a wet track on Friday.

Marquez acknowledged that he faced some unexpected challenges during qualifying, particularly when he switched to a new rear tire with a soft compound. “It was the first time that I put a new rear tyre with the with the soft compound. The bike changed a bit and then I had some movement that I didn't expect, a bit too aggressive (to handle),” Marquez explained. He recognized the need to adapt his riding style to optimize his performance. “I'm fast, but now I need to try to ride a bit smoother. I think I can but let's see in the sprint if we can have the same feeling.”

The qualifying session saw some drama as Fabio Di Giannantonio of VR46 Racing initially had his fastest lap cancelled due to yellow flags, only to have it reinstated later. This development pushed Alex Marquez down to third place, behind Di Giannantonio and his brother Marc.

Fabio Di Giannantonio expressed his emotional rollercoaster after initially having his fastest lap cancelled due to yellow flags, only to have it reinstated later. “I saw that my lap time got cancelled, I was so angry. Then I saw it again that it appeared again and I was so happy,” Di Giannantonio said, relieved that his effort was ultimately recognized.

Di Giannantonio was quick to praise his team and Ducati for their hard work and support. “The team deserves it, we are working so well since winter. So all thanks to them and to Ducati, the bike is amazing,” he acknowledged, highlighting the importance of teamwork and the quality of his bike in achieving his second-place qualifying result.

The grid for the Grand Prix of the Americas is taking shape, with Red Bull KTM's Pedro Acosta set to start fourth. Di Giannantonio's teammate Franco Morbidelli will join Acosta on the second row, while twice champion Francesco Bagnaia was left disappointed after finishing only sixth-fastest in qualifying.
