Luis Enrique: PSG Motivated for Saint-Etienne Trip Despite Ligue 1 Dominance

Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique says his team is motivated for their Ligue 1 clash against Saint-Etienne as they close in on the title and target more silverware.

Paris Saint-Germain is on the cusp of securing their fourth consecutive Ligue 1 title, with a 19-point lead over second-placed Marseille and only eight matches remaining. This weekend, PSG has the opportunity to win the title with seven games to spare if they emerge victorious at Saint-Etienne and other results go in their favor. However, coach Luis Enrique is focused on maintaining momentum to propel the team towards additional silverware.

Despite their unbeaten record, Enrique emphasized that PSG cannot afford to be complacent. “We're never champions until it's mathematically a foregone conclusion,” he cautioned during a press conference on Friday. Nevertheless, Enrique acknowledged his team's dominance in Ligue 1, stating, “But we're the best team in Ligue 1.” The Spanish coach intends to utilize the remaining eight matches to prepare for more ambitious objectives. “We're going to use this moment so that these eight games can be used for more global objectives,” he explained.

Enrique, who previously led Barcelona to a historic treble in 2015, is now poised to replicate this feat with PSG. The coach recognizes the importance of being prepared for the challenges that lie ahead. “We need to be ready for the two or three months of competition,” he said, emphasizing the need for sustained focus and effort to achieve success in multiple competitions.

Paris Saint-Germain's quest for European glory continues next month with a two-legged quarter-final clash against Aston Villa in the Champions League. Before that, PSG will face Dunkerque, a Ligue 2 side, in the French Cup semi-finals. Having suffered a semi-final defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last season, Luis Enrique's team is eager to make a deeper impact in the competition this time around.

As PSG prepares to visit relegation-threatened Saint-Etienne, who currently sit 17th in the table, coach Luis Enrique emphasized the team's motivation. Saint-Etienne's recent match against Montpellier was abandoned after home fans threw flares onto the pitch, causing a section of the stand to catch fire. Enrique acknowledged the challenging atmosphere that awaits his team. “We're playing away against a historic French club. There's a very powerful atmosphere in the stadium. We love these atmospheres of football and passionate people. It's very motivating for us. I hope there won't be any problems,” he said, expressing his team's enthusiasm for the encounter while also hoping for a trouble-free match.
