UWCL: Barcelona Rout Wolfsburg 6-1 to Reach Women's Champions League Semi-Finals

Barcelona's women's team has advanced to the semi-finals of the Champions League, defeating Wolfsburg 6-1 in the second leg to complete a dominant aggregate victory.

Reigning Women's Champions League winners Barcelona delivered a resounding 6-1 thrashing of Wolfsburg on Thursday, securing a 10-2 aggregate victory and a spot in the semi-finals. This triumph marked a record-breaking seventh consecutive appearance in the final four for Pere Romeu's side, who will now face either Chelsea or Manchester City in the next round.

Barcelona's dominance was on full display at the Johan Cruyff stadium, as they dismantled their German opponents with ease. The victory served as a strong response to their surprising 4-0 defeat to Real Madrid in Liga F on Sunday, which was their first-ever loss in a Clasico match. By bouncing back in such convincing fashion, Barcelona demonstrated their resilience and determination to defend their Champions League title.

With three titles in the last four editions of the Women's Champions League, Barcelona have established themselves as a powerhouse in the competition. Their latest victory over Wolfsburg, who they defeated in the 2023 final, underscores their status as a team to beat in the tournament. As they advance to the semi-finals, Barcelona will be eager to continue their winning ways and make a strong bid for their fourth title in five years.

Salma Paralluelo gave Barcelona an early lead, courtesy of a pinpoint accurate pass from Aitana Bonmati. Bonmati, a two-time Ballon d'Or winner, picked out Paralluelo on the left flank, where she had ample space to operate. Paralluelo seized the opportunity, unleashing a low, precise strike that found the back of the net via the far post.

Barcelona continued to pose a significant threat from the left side, with Esmee Brugts, who was playing out of position at left-back, narrowly missing the target with a deflected effort that struck the crossbar. However, Brugts played a crucial role in Barcelona's second goal, cutting the ball back for Paralluelo to finish with ease. Brugts then got on the scoresheet herself, unleashing a powerful strike from outside the box that gave the opposition goalkeeper no chance.

The second half saw Barcelona substitute Claudia Pina continue the rout, as she breezed past Anneke Borbe at her near post with ease. Although Lineth Beerensteyn managed to pull a goal back for the visitors after Barcelona goalkeeper Cata Coll was caught out of position, Pina restored Barcelona's five-goal advantage with a superbly struck free-kick that flew in off the post. In stoppage time, Mapi Leon put the icing on the cake with a stunning long-range effort, sealing Barcelona's resounding 6-1 victory.
