Simeone Warns Atletico Against Underestimating Improved Valencia

Diego Simeone has expressed his confidence in Antoine Griezmann, praising the French forward as an 'extraordinary player' amidst criticism.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is wary of underestimating Valencia ahead of their LaLiga clash on Saturday at the Mestalla Stadium. Despite Valencia's lowly 18th position in the standings, Simeone acknowledged that the team has shown significant improvement in recent months.

Atletico Madrid had previously thrashed Valencia 3-0 at the Metropolitano in September. However, Simeone recognizes that Valencia are now a tougher opponent. “Those who saw Valencia play will interpret that they are different to those of months ago, they have more intensity, a correct tactical behaviour and at home they have a step more with their people (supporting them),” Simeone told reporters on Friday. This assessment highlights Simeone's respect for Valencia's growth and his awareness of the challenges they pose.

Atletico Madrid currently sits third in the LaLiga standings with 50 points from 24 matches, just one point behind leaders Barcelona and second-placed Real Madrid. As they prepare to face Valencia, Simeone's cautious approach reflects his team's ambition to maintain their competitive edge in the league.

Atletico Madrid's recent form in LaLiga has been underwhelming, with two consecutive draws, including a 1-1 stalemate at home against Celta Vigo. This disappointing result squandered an opportunity for Atletico to claim the top spot in the league. As they prepare to face Valencia, Atletico will be seeking to return to winning ways and regain their momentum.

Valencia, on the other hand, has been on an upward trajectory, boasting a three-match unbeaten run in LaLiga. Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone acknowledged Valencia's improvement under new coach Carlos Corberan. “We've been fortunate enough to experience a lot of important games and we'll take it in our stride. Starting with a Valencia team that has improved with the new coach (Carlos Corberan), with a lot of order and that has made them grow,” Simeone said.

Simeone also expressed his confidence in French forward Antoine Griezmann, who has been a key contributor to Atletico's success this season. Griezmann has scored 15 goals and provided six assists in 35 games across all competitions. “He is an extraordinary player, differential, he makes us have a leap in quality. Of course, there are games where he doesn't do well, like so many other teammates. It will be up to me to interpret his game management. I have absolute confidence in him,” Simeone said, highlighting Griezmann's importance to the team.
