Ruben Amorim to Address Alejandro Garnacho's Reaction to Substitution
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim plans to speak with Alejandro Garnacho about his reaction to being substituted during the 3-2 win over Ipswich.
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim plans to address Alejandro Garnacho's abrupt exit from the pitch after being substituted during the 3-2 win over Ipswich on Wednesday. The substitution, which saw Garnacho replaced by defender Noussair Mazraoui, was made necessary by Patrick Dorgu's red card.

Garnacho's reaction to being taken off was telling, as the 20-year-old Argentine forward headed straight to the dressing room instead of joining his teammates on the bench. This decision was met with boos from the Manchester United faithful, who were seemingly unhappy with Amorim's tactical decision.
Following the game, Garnacho took to Instagram to post a story of himself looking dejected while walking through the rain. When questioned about Garnacho's behavior, Amorim downplayed the incident, suggesting that the weather may have contributed to the player's decision to leave the pitch. “It was cold and wet, maybe,” Amorim said, implying that Garnacho's actions were perhaps a result of the inclement weather rather than any deeper issue.

Ruben Amorim explained his reasoning behind substituting Alejandro Garnacho during the 3-2 win over Ipswich, stating that the decision was tactical. “The thinking was we'd play more in the 5-3-1. I know that is a risk because you are taking maybe the only player who has one against one pace but I felt the team was OK in the controlling of the game, almost at half-time.”
Amorim acknowledged that the substitution was a difficult choice, but one that he felt was necessary. “Then you make the substitution. We have to choose someone to go out, we have to think about set pieces also, so it was my choice.” When questioned about his relationship with Garnacho, Amorim drew parallels with Marcus Rashford, who recently joined Aston Villa on loan after falling out of favor.
Amorim seemed to hint that he was not entirely pleased with Garnacho's reaction to being substituted, but chose not to elaborate further. “You are making a connection with Rashford, right? I know, I know,” Amorim said. “What I'm saying is I'm going to talk obviously with Garnacho about that, so I will talk about that if you want in the next press conference.” This response suggests that Amorim intends to address the issue with Garnacho directly, rather than discussing it publicly at this time.
While Ruben Amorim is set to address Alejandro Garnacho's reaction to being substituted, he opted not to criticize Patrick Dorgu following Manchester United's 3-2 win over Ipswich. Dorgu's early error, which led to Jaden Philogene's opening goal, was compounded by his sending off after a challenge on Omari Hutchinson.
The match began ominously for United, as a mix-up between Dorgu and goalkeeper Andre Onana allowed Philogene to capitalize and score. However, United responded through Sam Morsy's own goal and a Matthijs de Ligt effort, taking the lead before Dorgu's red card. Ipswich leveled just before halftime, but Harry Maguire's header in the second half proved decisive.
Amorim acknowledged that Dorgu's mistake had the potential to derail United's momentum, saying, “Everybody, when they watch that ball, thinks, 'Here we go again.'” However, he praised his team's resilience, adding, “But then sometimes football is like that and we managed to fight all the situations during the game and I think we truly deserve the three points today.”
Amorim attributed Dorgu's error to a “misunderstanding” and emphasized that the player's intentions were not malicious. “The first situation was a misunderstanding, the way they connect each other,” Amorim said. “Then the sending off, the important thing is that I really know Dorgu quite well. He doesn't want to harm anybody and that is important for me.”
