Manchester United has announced the signing of highly-rated young defender Patrick Dorgu from Italian Serie A side Lecce. The 20-year-old Danish defender has signed a long-term contract with United, keeping him at Old Trafford until June 2030. Dorgu becomes the second new addition under head coach Ruben Amorim.

The versatile youngster, who is of Nigerian descent, can play as a wing-back and outright winger. According to reports, the transfer deal is worth an initial €30 million, with an additional €5 million in potential add-ons. Amorim had identified a wide defender as a key priority to address in January, and Dorgu was deemed the perfect fit for his 3-4-2-1 system.

Patrick Dorgu expressed his excitement about joining Manchester United and working with Amorim. “I cannot wait to work with Ruben Amorim; his vision for this team and the future of the club is incredibly exciting,” Dorgu said in a statement. He also highlighted the clear plan in place for his development, saying, “There is a clear plan set out for my development, and I feel that Manchester United is the perfect place to fulfil my potential and complete my huge ambitions.”

Patrick Dorgu began his football journey in Denmark, rising through the renowned youth academy of Nordsjaelland. He later made the move to Italy, joining Lecce, where he made his debut in the 2023/24 season. Since then, Dorgu has become an integral part of the team, featuring regularly in the lineup.

Dorgu's impressive performances for Lecce this season have seen him make 23 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals, including two match-winners. His contributions have been significant, showcasing his growth and potential as a young player.

On the international stage, Dorgu has already made a mark, earning four caps for Denmark and scoring one goal since his debut in September. This early success on the international front is a testament to his rapid development and promising future in the sport.
