Transfer: RB Leipzig Sign Xavi Simons from PSG on Permanent Transfer

RB Leipzig have completed the permanent signing of midfielder Xavi Simons from Paris St Germain. The 21-year-old Netherlands international has signed a contract until 2027.

After a successful 18-month loan spell, attacking midfielder Xavi Simons has signed a permanent deal with RB Leipzig from Paris St Germain. The 21-year-old Netherlands international has committed to Leipzig until 2027, solidifying his position within the team.

According to reports, the transfer deal is worth over 50 million euros ($52.19 million), with significant add-ons included. This substantial investment underscores Leipzig's confidence in Simons' abilities and their desire to retain his services.

Xavi Simons expressed his enthusiasm for the permanent move, stating, “I have always emphasised that I feel very much at home in Leipzig and am honoured by the great appreciation I receive at the club.” This sentiment highlights Simons' comfort and appreciation for the team, suggesting a bright future for the young midfielder at Leipzig.

Xavi Simons' journey to becoming a permanent RB Leipzig player has been a winding one. He joined Paris St Germain as a youth player in 2019 after spending seven years at Barcelona. Simons made his senior debut at PSG in 2021, before moving to PSV Eindhoven the following year. He returned to PSG in 2023, only to be sent on loan to Leipzig shortly after.

During his time at Leipzig, Simons has made a significant impact. He has made 60 appearances for the team over the last two seasons, scoring 15 goals. Additionally, Simons has helped Leipzig win the German Super Cup in 2023. On the international stage, he has made 24 appearances for the Netherlands.

As Leipzig pushes for a top-four finish in the Bundesliga and Champions League qualification, Simons is focused on the task at hand. “We want to qualify for the Champions League for the seventh time in a row and travel to Berlin in the (German) Cup, that's all that matters now,” he stated. Leipzig currently sits fifth in the Bundesliga, trailing fourth-placed VfB Stuttgart on goal difference, and is also in the German Cup quarter-finals.
