Tottenham Boss Postecoglou Provides Update on Transfer Plans Amid Injury Crisis

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou says the club is working hard to bring in players amid an injury crisis, but admits the January transfer window has been 'tricky' so far.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou addressed the media ahead of the team's clash with Everton, providing an update on team news. Ange Postecoglou revealed that a few players are still nursing injuries from the midweek game, including Brennan Johnson, who has a calf complaint. However, he also shared some positive news, stating that Ben Davies should be available for selection. “There's a couple still sore from midweek. Just waiting to see how Brennan Johnson is, he has a bit of a calf complaint. Coming back, Ben Davies should be involved,” he said.

Postecoglou was also asked to assess the team's performance in the North London derby against Arsenal, which ended in a 2-1 defeat. The Spurs head coach attributed the lack of intensity to a combination of physical and mental factors. “Bit of both. First half we were way too passive in our approach - with and without the ball,” he said. Postecoglou criticized the team's approach, stating that they allowed Arsenal to dictate the game and set the tempo. “We allowed Arsenal to dictate the game, set the tempo, we weren't really able to make an impact like we wanted,” he said. Although the team improved in the second half, Postecoglou acknowledged that it was ultimately too little, too late. “Second half was better but ultimately it cost us.”

Ange Postecoglou provided an update on Tottenham's transfer activities, acknowledging that the club is working hard to bring in players to help alleviate their injury crisis. “I know the club is working hard as they can. January is not easy. I know work is being done behind the scenes to get some players in,” he said. Postecoglou's comments suggest that the club is actively seeking to strengthen their squad, but the January transfer window can be challenging.

Postecoglou was also asked about Tottenham's interest in forward Kolo Muani, who ultimately joined Juventus despite being linked with Spurs for some time. The Australian coach clarified that while the club was interested in Muani, a deal was never close to being finalized. “Depends. We were interested in and looking at a number of players. Did we get to point he was coming to us? No,” he said.

Postecoglou admitted that the January transfer window has been difficult for Tottenham so far, but he expects activity to pick up over the next few weeks. “It is tricky, as all clubs are finding. Traditionally it ramps up in the final week. We are approaching that for all clubs,” he said. The Spurs head coach highlighted the complexities of the January transfer window, where clubs often face logistical challenges in acquiring players. “It is trickier in January because you trying to acquire players from clubs who might want to replace that player, so a lot of logistics involved.”
