Nick Kyrgios Makes Surprise Return to Australia's Davis Cup Team

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios makes surprise comeback to Davis Cup team after wrist reconstruction.

Nick Kyrgios, 29, is set to make a shocking return to Davis Cup tennis after a five-year hiatus. Australian team captain Lleyton Hewitt announced Kyrgios' surprise selection on Tuesday.

Despite undergoing wrist reconstruction, Nick Kyrgios made a promising return to tennis last week in Brisbane. Although he lost in three tight sets to rising French star Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, his performance was enough to earn him a spot in Australia's Davis Cup team. Kyrgios will compete in the tie against Sweden.

Kyrgios has tempered expectations for his upcoming performance at the Australian Open, which starts on Sunday. “I would need a miracle to be competitive,” he said, acknowledging the challenges he still faces after his wrist surgery.

Hewitt also named world number eight Alex de Minaur, Jordan Thompson, and Thanasi Kokkinakis to complete his four-man team.

Australia, last year's Davis Cup semi-finalists, will face Sweden in Stockholm on January 31st-February 1st.
