New Zealand's Alice Robinson secured her first World Cup win in almost four years, triumphing in the giant slalom at Kronplatz, Italy on Tuesday. Robinson's victory came after leader Federica Brignone crashed out on her second run, allowing the 23-year-old Kiwi to claim her fourth World Cup win with a combined time of 1:55.28. This result propelled Robinson to the top of the giant slalom standings, ahead of Sara Hector and Brignone, who both failed to finish.

Robinson's path to victory was not straightforward, as she was fifth after the first run. Brignone, who was leading the overall competition standings and fresh from her super-G win at Cortina on Sunday, was in the lead ahead of Lara Gut-Behrami and Hector. However, Robinson's flawless second run put her in the lead, and she watched as Hector and Gut-Behrami struggled. With only Brignone standing in her way, Robinson was visibly shocked when the Italian went off course, securing the Kiwi's victory. An elated Robinson reflected on her win, saying, “I mean, four years since I last won and there were definitely some times in those four years where I wasn't sure if I was going to win again so to be back and winning here, it's just so special.”

The podium was completed by Gut-Behrami, who took second place, 0.56 seconds behind Robinson, and America's Paula Moltzan. Gut-Behrami's result moved her from fourth to second in the overall competition, cutting the gap to Brignone to 55 points. The World Cup circuit will next head to Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany for the downhill and super-G events at the weekend.
