NBA Recap: Lakers, Knicks, and Bulls Secure Big Wins in NBA Roundup

The Los Angeles Lakers extended their winning streak to four games, while the New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls also secured big wins in Monday's NBA action.

Amen Thompson's last-gasp heroics lifted the Houston Rockets to a thrilling 114-112 victory over the NBA champion Boston Celtics on Monday. Thompson drove for the game-winner with 1.3 seconds left, capping an extraordinary performance that saw him score a career-high 33 points, including 10 rebounds, four assists, one steal, and a crucial late block. The Rockets had surrendered an early 11-point advantage and trailed by 12 points early in the fourth quarter, but Thompson's clutch play sealed the win.

The Rockets' victory marked their second consecutive win over an Eastern Conference powerhouse, following their two victories over Cleveland last week. Dillon Brooks led the charge with 36 points, while Thompson's impressive display earned him widespread praise. A three-pointer from Brooks sparked a 13-0 Rockets run, capped by two baskets from Thompson, which put Houston up 102-101. Jaylen Brown scored 28 points to lead the Celtics, while Jayson Tatum added 19 points, all of which came in the second half.

The Celtics' late surge, led by Tatum, tied the game 112-112 with 5.3 seconds left. However, Thompson stole the show with his game-winning drive. “That felt great,” Thompson exclaimed. “That's my first game-winner. I feel like Kobe (Bryant)!” Thompson's clutch play was reminiscent of the legendary Lakers guard, and his performance will undoubtedly be remembered for a long time.

The Cleveland Cavaliers snapped their first three-game losing streak of the season with a convincing 110-91 home victory over the Detroit Pistons. This win marked a much-needed turnaround for the Cavaliers, who had been struggling to find their footing.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers extended their winning streak to four games with a 112-107 victory over the Charlotte Hornets. Anthony Davis was the star of the show, delivering a monster performance with 42 points and 23 rebounds. Davis set the tone early, scoring 21 points with 11 rebounds in the first quarter alone. “Teammates did their job setting me up,” Davis said. “It's the entire team, not just me I think. It's the way we've been playing, moving the basketball, playing for each other, not caring who scores as long as we score - things have just been able to open up for me.” LeBron James added 22 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists, while Austin Reaves chipped in 17 points for the Lakers.

The Miami Heat shook off the latest drama surrounding star Jimmy Butler to secure a thrilling 125-119 double-overtime victory over the Orlando Magic. Tyler Herro led the charge with 30 points and 12 assists, while Bam Adebayo added 26 points. The win came despite Butler's suspension for walking out of the morning shoot-around, reportedly due to being told he would be coming off the bench.

The New York Knicks brought the Memphis Grizzlies' six-game winning streak to an emphatic end with a resounding 143-106 triumph at Madison Square Garden. Mikal Bridges scored 28 points to lead seven Knicks players in double figures, and New York held Memphis star Ja Morant to just 10 points. Karl-Anthony Towns added 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Knicks, who put up 143 points for the second straight game.

The Chicago Bulls withstood a 33-point triple-double from Denver's Nikola Jokic to secure a hard-fought 129-121 victory over the Nuggets. Zach LaVine scored 21 points, and Nikola Vucevic added 20 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists for the Bulls, who connected on 24 of 53 three-point attempts. Chicago opened the fourth quarter on a 13-0 scoring run to seize control of the game and hold off the Nuggets.
