MLS Apologises for Incorrectly Announcing Kyogo Furuhashi's Transfer
Major League Soccer (MLS) has apologised for incorrectly announcing that Kyogo Furuhashi had joined Atlanta United, when in fact Cayman Togashi was the actual signing.
Major League Soccer (MLS) has issued an apology for mistakenly announcing that Celtic's Japanese forward Kyogo Furuhashi had joined Atlanta United. In reality, the team had signed Cayman Togashi, a 31-year-old Japanese player.
The confusion began when Atlanta United teased a new Japanese signing earlier in the week, leading to speculation that Furuhashi, a Japan international, would be joining the team. On Wednesday, MLS posted an article on its website confirming Furuhashi's transfer, only to correct itself later.
However, in a subsequent announcement, Atlanta United revealed that it was actually Cayman Togashi, a former Japan under-23 forward, who had joined the team on a free transfer through the 2025 campaign.
Major League Soccer apologized Thursday for publishing a story on its website that falsely reported that Celtic FC and Japan forward Kyogo Furuhashi had joined Atlanta United.

MLS extends its sincere apologies to the impacted parties.”
