Logan Thompson Agrees to Six-Year Contract Extension with Washington Capitals
The Washington Capitals have signed goalie Logan Thompson to a six-year, $35.1 million contract extension, securing his services through the 2029-2030 season.
Thompson expressed his delight with the new contract, stating, “We got it done pretty quick and finalized it this morning. Really happy to be here for many more years to come. Love my time here and just thankful for the opportunity that the Capitals gave me.” He also reflected on the decision to leave Vegas, saying, “I knew it was a big risk leaving Vegas and what they had going on over there, but I just wanted a different opportunity. I didn't really know where I was going to end up and couldn't be more happy that I ended up with this organization and just really thankful for my time here.”

Thompson has been the standout goalie in the NHL this season, and his exceptional performance has been instrumental in the Capitals' remarkable success. Many had predicted that the Capitals would not make the playoffs, but Thompson's outstanding play has propelled the team to the top of the league. His impressive statistics, including a 2.09 goals-against average (second in the NHL) and a .925 save percentage (third), have been key factors in the Capitals' dominance.
The Capitals' impressive record of 22-5 with Thompson in net this season is a testament to his incredible form. Thompson is on the cusp of achieving a personal milestone, needing just three more shutouts to reach five for the season. This would surpass his entire career total of four shutouts prior to this season. Thompson's recent performances have been particularly impressive, with the goalie allowing only five goals over the past five games, including two shutouts.

Thompson credits his success to a newfound mindset, saying, “I think I am just having a lot of fun and not thinking, just going out there and playing has kind of been my new mindset this year and it's just been a lot of fun. I am enjoying every minute of it.” The Capitals will look to continue their winning ways when they face the Calgary Flames on January 28th in their next game.
