Kompany: Bayern's Success '99% Down to Player Quality'

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany has credited his team's success to the individual quality of his players, saying that '99% of the job is individual quality of players'.

Bayern Munich's impressive Bundesliga season, which has seen the team score 53 league goals in 17 matches, can be attributed largely to the individual quality of the players, according to coach Vincent Kompany. Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Kompany emphasized the significance of the players' skills, stating: “Ninety percent of the job is individual quality of players. Maybe even 99%.”

Kompany, who took over as Bayern's coach this season, acknowledged the role of a coach in preparing the team and providing a clear plan, but ultimately credited the players for the team's success. “I have no arrogance when it comes to that. I have no desire to make myself important,” the Belgian coach said. Under Kompany's leadership, Bayern has regained its position at the top of the Bundesliga, currently sitting four points ahead of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayern Munich's impressive start to the season has seen them score 53 goals while conceding just 13 in the Bundesliga, with only one league loss so far. As they strive to reclaim their domestic dominance, coach Vincent Kompany emphasized the importance of scoring goals. “Goals is something I would always put forward for all the teams I am able to coach,” Kompany said. He attributed his focus on goal-scoring to his upbringing in Brussels and his experience playing street football and for Anderlecht. “I am a (former) defender but I grew up in Brussels and Anderlecht and street football, and for me it was all about the things you could do when you have the ball.”

Kompany, a former longtime Manchester City defender, credited his team's success to the players rather than his own coaching. “I would always credit the team. Sometimes it is outside perception to make everything about the coaches. We make a lot of important decisions that's true, the energy of the squad, the clarity and the plan,” he said. Kompany emphasized that a coach's success is largely dependent on having good players. “But I really, really think that why so many coaches can be successful with so many different styles and ideas it is because they have good players. That's the key thing.”
