Kevin Stefanski to Call Plays for Browns' Offense Next Season
Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski will call plays for the team's offense next season, taking on a new role after a disappointing 3-14 season.
Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has announced that he will be taking on the role of play-caller for the team's offense next season. This decision comes after the Browns fired former offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey and offensive line coach Andy Dickerson earlier this month, following a disappointing 3-14 season. Stefanski took over as the team's play-caller mid-season, after the team started 1-6.
During a press conference on Thursday, Stefanski confirmed his decision to call plays, stating: “I'm going to call plays, and I reserve the right to change my mind.” He also expressed his confidence in newly promoted offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, saying: “(As for Tommy), he has an incredible football mind. He is extremely bright and has been around the game his entire life.” Rees, 32, was promoted to offensive coordinator less than a week after Dorsey's departure.

Stefanski, a two-time Coach of the Year (2020, 2023), has spent the past five seasons as the Browns' head coach, accumulating a combined 40-44 record. Despite his success, the team's offense struggled significantly last season, finishing with a 3-14 record and ranking 28th in the league. The Browns had the worst scoring offense in the league, averaging just 15.2 points per game, and committed the most turnovers (34) in the league, including 23 interceptions and 11 fumbles lost.
