Kane's Slump Continues: Can Bayern Munich's Star Striker Find His Form?

Bayern Munich's Harry Kane aims to break his goal-scoring slump when his team faces Freiburg on Saturday, with his recent form a concern despite topping the Bundesliga goalscoring charts.

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane will be seeking to break his slump in front of goal when his team travels to face Freiburg on Saturday. Despite topping the Bundesliga goalscoring charts with 16 goals in 16 games, Kane's recent form has been a cause for concern. “With 16 goals in 16 games this season, Kane still tops the Bundesliga goalscoring charts, but the numbers relay a trend that may worry the league leaders.”

Kane's goal-scoring drought from open play has now stretched to seven games in all competitions, with his last goal from open play coming in November. However, the England captain's exceptional penalty-taking skills have helped mask this dip in form. He has scored two penalties during this period, extending his remarkable streak of 27 consecutive spot-kicks converted for club and country.

Bayern Munich's midweek Champions League loss to Feyenoord highlighted Kane's struggles in front of goal. Despite dominating possession, Bayern was unable to capitalize on several scoring opportunities, with Kane missing multiple chances. The 31-year-old had missed four games in December due to a hamstring strain and appears to still be working his way back to full fitness.

Bayern Munich's sporting director, Max Eberl, emphasized the importance of Harry Kane's goal-scoring contributions to the team. “Of course, we need his goals,” Eberl said. He also expressed confidence in Kane's ability to bounce back from his current slump, noting that the striker is likely his own harshest critic. “He hasn't scored but he knows that and is probably more critical of himself than anyone else. He's experienced many highs and a few lows. If there's anyone who can handle a dip, it's Harry Kane.”

Freiburg coach Julian Schuster is preparing his team to face a Bayern Munich side that is likely to be motivated by their midweek defeat. “When a team loses, there's automatically a bit of extra spice next time around. And we all know what it means when Bayern suffer a loss,” Schuster said on Thursday. Schuster's Freiburg side has been strong at home, losing just once in nine games, and he believes that Bayern's recent loss shows that they can be vulnerable. “It shows that it is possible to find gaps and to hurt them.”
