Ipswich Town Signs Ben Godfrey on Loan from Atalanta

Ipswich Town has signed defender Ben Godfrey on loan from Atalanta until the end of the season, bolstering their defensive options.

Ipswich Town has bolstered its defensive ranks with the loan signing of Ben Godfrey from Atalanta. The 26-year-old defender joins the promoted Premier League club for the remainder of the season.

Ben Godfrey's move to Ipswich comes after a quiet start to his Atalanta career. Since joining the Serie A side from Everton in the summer for a reported fee of around £10 million, Godfrey has made just one league appearance and two Champions League appearances for the Italian club.

Ipswich Town coach Kieran McKenna expressed his delight at securing the services of Ben Godfrey, stating, “We wanted to add to that area. Ben is a good player and an experienced player. That will be a good boost for us in the second half of the season.” Godfrey's arrival is expected to bolster the team's defensive capabilities.

Ben Godfrey, who previously made 93 appearances for Everton after joining the club in 2020 from Norwich City, shared his enthusiasm for joining Ipswich. “I have really enjoyed speaking to the manager and to have the opportunity to work under him now is something I’m very excited about,” Godfrey said. He also praised the team's spirit, adding, “I’ve watched a lot of the games from the first half of the season and you can tell from those that the group is a tight one, full of players giving everything to achieve their goals.”

Godfrey's signing marks Ipswich's first acquisition of the January transfer window, as the team seeks to escape the relegation zone. Currently sitting 18th in the table, Ipswich will be looking to build on their recent wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, and their 2-2 draw with Fulham on Sunday.
