FC Porto has appointed Martin Anselmi as its new head coach, replacing Vítor Bruno. The Argentine coach joins the Dragons on a four-year deal until 2027.

FC Porto has appointed Argentine Martin Anselmi as its new head coach, replacing the recently sacked Vítor Bruno. Anselmi, 39, joins the Dragons from Cruz Azul and has signed a contract that will keep him at the helm until 2027.

Anselmi will be joined by a new coaching staff, including Luis Pastur and Facundo Oreja as assistant coaches, Diego Bottaioli as fitness coach, and Dario Herrera and Diogo Almeida as goalkeeping coaches. The new coach was in attendance at the match against Santa Clara, which ended in a 1-1 draw at the Estadio do Dragao.

Anselmi will officially take charge of the team on Thursday in Belgrade, where FC Porto will face Maccabi Tel Aviv in the final match of the Europa League group stage. The Dragons must secure a win to progress to the playoffs. Anselmi brings a wealth of experience from his time in South America, where he achieved significant success with Independiente del Valle in Ecuador.

During his tenure at Independiente del Valle, Anselmi led the team to numerous titles, including the Copa del Rey, Super Cup, South American Cup, and Recopa Sudamericana. In 2022, he became the youngest coach to win a CONMEBOL continental competition. Anselmi's subsequent move to Cruz Azul in 2024 saw him revitalize the team, leading them to the final of the Mexican Clausura last May, where they ultimately lost to Club America.
