Emery: Aston Villa Open to Signings and Sales Before Deadline
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery confirms the club is still active in the transfer market ahead of the January deadline.
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery addressed the media in his latest press conference, discussing the club's transfer plans ahead of their match against West Ham United. When asked about potential incomings or outgoings before the January transfer window closes, Emery stated, “We are open to try to improve the squad until the last moment, and we are open as well in case someone is leaving.”
Emery acknowledged the departure of Diego Carlos last week and expressed the need to replace him. “Of course, Diego Carlos left last week, and we have to replace him,” Emery said. “We are focusing with the sporting director and the club on which players could potentially replace Diego Carlos.” This indicates that Aston Villa are actively seeking to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes.

Emery also shared his thoughts on new signing Andres Garcia, highlighting the young player's potential. “He is a right full-back, potential, young player,” Emery said. “He was progressing so quickly, and I knew him before. I know how he was doing, as a person as well.” Emery revealed that the club decided to sign Garcia due to his rapid progress and potential for growth. “We decided to sign him because we were thinking it was a good opportunity, just in this moment, a really good opportunity, how he is progressing so quick in his career.”
Regarding the club's ambitions, Emery emphasized the importance of consistency, particularly in their home performances. “It is very important to try to be consistent like we are at home at the moment,” Emery said. He also reiterated the club's aim to secure a European qualification spot this season. “The most important thing for us is the Premier League, and to be in the top eight positions, and of course, always close to try and threaten the top four, five positions in the future.”
