Bundesliga: RB Leipzig Stages Dramatic Comeback to Draw 2-2 with Bayer Leverkusen

RB Leipzig came from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw with Bayer Leverkusen, ending the visitors' eight-game Bundesliga winning streak.

RB Leipzig staged a remarkable comeback to secure a 2-2 draw against Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, marking the first time in nine head-to-head meetings that the two teams have shared the points. Leipzig started the match with intent, and after Nordi Mukiele tested Peter Gulacsi from distance, Xavi Simons saw his shot saved by Lukas Hradecky as the hosts won the ball high up the pitch.

Despite their early pressure, Leipzig found themselves trailing in the 19th minute. Florian Wirtz, who had just been involved in an altercation with Willi Orban, showcased his skill by dancing into the box and unleashing a shot that rebounded off the post to Patrik Schick, who scored his 13th goal in eight league starts. Leipzig continued to threaten, delivering crosses into the box, but Lois Openda's header under pressure from Jonathan Tah sailed marginally over the bar.

Wirtz proved to be a thorn in Leipzig's side once again, creating space for himself before being denied by Peter Gulacsi's spectacular save, which tipped the ball behind off the post. However, Leipzig's fortunes took a turn for the worse when they conceded a second goal. With David Raum injured, Leipzig kept playing, but this allowed Wirtz to gain possession in the box and set up Aleix Garcia for his first Bundesliga goal.

Raum made a swift recovery and exacted revenge just five minutes later. His free-kick flicked off Piero Hincapié's head, crashed off the crossbar, and eventually found its way into the roof of the net, raising the temperature of the match. This goal sparked Leipzig's comeback, and they would eventually secure a 2-2 draw, taking points from Bayer Leverkusen in the process.

David Raum continued to make his presence felt, this time with a crucial goalline block to deny Exequiel Palacios within three minutes of the Argentine's introduction at halftime. This defensive heroics prevented Leverkusen from extending their lead, giving Leipzig a glimmer of hope.

Despite Raum's efforts, Leipzig suffered another setback when Kevin Kampl was forced off due to injury. Antonio Nusa attempted to capitalize on the momentum but fired over the crossbar, allowing Bayer Leverkusen to regain control and calm the proceedings. However, the visitors were unable to add to their lead, with Palacios' shot being saved, Wirtz hitting the post once more, and Hincapie turning Mukiele's cross wide.

Leverkusen's failure to capitalize on their chances proved costly, as Leipzig began to gain momentum. Benjamin Sesko was denied by Lukas Hradecky after being allowed to touch down Xavi Simons' corner, and Jeremie Frimpong blasted his effort over the bar. However, Leipzig's persistence eventually paid off in the 85th minute.

Edmond Tapsoba's own goal in the 85th minute sealed the comeback for Leipzig, as Xavi Simons' dinked free-kick was headed into the net by the Leverkusen defender. This goal ended Leverkusen's eight-game winning streak in the Bundesliga, coming on the heels of their UEFA Champions League defeat to Atlético Madrid. While Leipzig remains winless in their last three league matches, this comeback, combined with their European victory over Sporting CP, can serve as a significant morale booster for the club.
