Leverkusen Extend Winning Streak to 11 Matches with Dominant Display
Bayer Leverkusen extended their winning streak to 11 matches, defeating Borussia Monchengladbach 3-1 to move within four points of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.
Bayer Leverkusen extended their impressive winning streak to 11 matches across all competitions, comfortably defeating Borussia Monchengladbach 3-1 at the BayArena. This victory moves Leverkusen within four points of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, who had earlier secured a win. Xabi Alonso's side was well aware of the challenge ahead, but they ultimately proved too strong for their opponents.
Leverkusen's dominant home form, with only one defeat since March 2023, made them clear favorites. However, they made a sluggish start, struggling to break down Monchengladbach's defense. It wasn't until the 25th minute that they managed their first shot on target, as Alejandro Grimaldo picked out Patrik Schick in the area. Unfortunately for the hosts, Schick's headed effort was straight at goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas.
Monchengladbach's resistance was eventually broken just beyond the half-hour mark. Granit Xhaka played a precise pass through to Florian Wirtz, who beat the last defender and kept his composure to slot the ball past Nicolas and into the bottom-right corner. This goal marked the beginning of a convincing win for Leverkusen, who would go on to score two more goals and secure a 3-1 victory.

Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen continued to assert their dominance after the half-time break. In the 55th minute, Alejandro Grimaldo unleashed a powerful shot that was miraculously saved by Monchengladbach goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas, preventing Leverkusen from doubling their lead.
Leverkusen's persistence eventually paid off just beyond the hour mark. Julian Weigl's handball in the box presented the hosts with a penalty opportunity, which Florian Wirtz duly converted. Wirtz sent the goalkeeper the wrong way, scoring his second goal of the match and seemingly putting the game out of reach for Monchengladbach.

With the contest all but over, Wirtz turned provider for Leverkusen's third goal. He found Patrik Schick inside the box, and the striker slotted the ball into the corner for his seventh goal in his last four appearances. Although Tim Kleindienst scored a consolation goal for Monchengladbach in stoppage time, Leverkusen's victory was never in doubt.
The win marks a return to form for Leverkusen, who now face a challenging week with away matches against Atlético Madrid and RB Leipzig. In contrast, Monchengladbach's third consecutive league defeat has seen them lose further ground on the top six, leaving them rooted in the bottom half of the table.
