Bochum Stun RB Leipzig with Incredible Comeback to Earn 3-3 Draw
Bochum produced an astonishing comeback to draw 3-3 with RB Leipzig, with Myron Boadu scoring a quickfire hat-trick to cancel out Leipzig's three-goal lead and earn a vital point in their relegation battle.
RB Leipzig dominated the early stages of the match, and thought they had taken the lead within seven minutes when Christoph Baumgartner slotted the ball home. However, the goal was disallowed due to Baumgartner being offside. Undeterred, Leipzig continued to press and were rewarded just two minutes later when Willi Orban's attempted cross from the left flank caught everyone off guard, floating into the far top corner to give the visitors the lead.
Leipzig's blistering start continued as they doubled their advantage within the first 15 minutes. Antonio Nusa capitalized on a loose ball, unleashing a powerful shot from the edge of the area that left Bochum goalkeeper Patrick Drewes with no chance. The visitors' fast start had given them a commanding lead, but Bochum were far from ready to give up.
The match seemed to be slipping away from Bochum as they struggled to recover from RB Leipzig's dominant start. The visitors' third goal arrived just 20 minutes into the game, with Christoph Baumgartner scoring from close range to leave the hosts reeling. Bochum's fortunes showed no signs of improving as the first half drew to a close.
A stroke of bad luck summed up Bochum's miserable first half when Baumgartner inadvertently deflected a corner towards his own goal with his arm. Although the VAR review deemed it not worthy of a penalty, Peter Gulacsi's outstanding save denied Bochum a potential lifeline. Determined to turn the game around, Dieter Hecking made a crucial substitution at halftime, introducing Gerrit Holtmann to the attack.
The introduction of Holtmann proved to be a masterstroke as Bochum staged an incredible comeback, scoring three times before the hour mark. Holtmann played a key role, setting up Myron Boadu for a simple tap-in immediately after the restart. Boadu then struck again, poking the ball home from a few yards out. Leipzig's collapse was complete when Boadu confidently converted a penalty, awarded after Antonio Nusa's clumsy challenge, to level the score.

The dramatic comeback has given Bochum a renewed sense of hope in their battle against relegation. Despite remaining bottom of the table, they now sit just four points away from the relegation play-off spot, a remarkable turnaround given their winless start to the season. In contrast, RB Leipzig will be left to ponder how they squandered a three-goal lead, missing the opportunity to leapfrog VfB Stuttgart in the table and remaining in fifth place.
