The Los Angeles Angels and pitcher Jose Quijada have agreed to a one-year, $1.075 million deal, avoiding arbitration. The contract also includes a $3.75 million club option for 2026, potentially securing Quijada's services for another two years.
Quijada, 29, made a notable contribution to the Angels' bullpen last season despite being limited to just 22 games. He recovered from reconstructive elbow surgery and went on to pitch 19.1 innings with a 3.26 ERA. Quijada allowed 12 hits, walked 17 batters, and struck out 24.
Although Quijada struggled with a high walk rate, he proved effective in limiting opponents' batting average, which stood at .190. Notably, Quijada achieved a 12-game scoreless streak in mid-August, showcasing his potential as a reliable bullpen arm.
Quijada's experience extends beyond his MLB career, as he represented Venezuela in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. This international exposure has likely contributed to his growth as a pitcher, and the Angels are set to benefit from his continued development.
