Ajax Manager Farioli Plays Down Transfer Speculation
Ajax manager Francesco Farioli addressed transfer rumors surrounding the club, including the future of right-back Devyne Rensch and injured target Raul Moro, following their recent win.
Ajax manager Francesco Farioli was impressed with his team's performance against sc Heerenveen, describing them as “brilliant.” Ajax became the first team to beat Heerenveen at home this season, securing a 2-0 victory. This win was crucial, as it allowed Ajax to capitalize on the dropped points by other top-six teams in the Eredivisie over the weekend.
The victory propelled Ajax to within one point of league leaders PSV, but Farioli remained calm and focused on the task at hand. “Nothing changed for us, we need to collect as much points as we can,” he stated. Farioli emphasized the importance of maintaining their momentum, adding, “Our motivation is the next game and the next ones we have are two important European matches.”
Farioli was particularly pleased with the attitude and determination displayed by his team. “We wanted to win today, I think the players showed an incredible attitude,” he said. The Italian boss also highlighted Ajax's ability to adapt to different situations during the match. “We had moments of very good football and the capacity to suffer when it was the moment to suffer.” Farioli concluded by praising his team's achievement, saying, “Really big congratulations to them. One more victory in the pocket, one more clean sheet - the ninth in 19 games - it's the best defense in the league. We go ahead.”
Brilliant Ajax
Ajax demonstrated their resilience by bouncing back from a cup defeat against AZ (2-0) with an impressive performance. Manager Francesco Farioli was effusive in his praise, describing the team's display as “brilliant.” Ajax's victory was all the more impressive given that it came against a strong sc Heerenveen side that had conceded just four goals in their previous nine matches.
Farioli elaborated on his team's performance, highlighting their dominant start to the game. “I think the game today was brilliant. The first 30 minutes we have very good moments,” he said. Ajax created numerous scoring opportunities during this period, with Farioli noting, “We had the opportunity to score two three goals, we were creating a lot of chances, we were very aggressive in the pressure, we recovered a tremendous amount of balls in the opposite half.” Ultimately, Ajax's efforts were rewarded with a 2-0 victory, a result that pleased Farioli. “We score four goals in the end in a place where so far nobody has won... I think we have to be happy.”
Transfer Rumors
Besides celebrating the win, Ajax manager Francesco Farioli had to address transfer rumors surrounding the club. When asked about the status of desired transfer target Raul Moro, who recently suffered a serious injury, Farioli directed the questions to the club's directors. “I'm not the person you should ask. We have our directors, they know exactly what I think and what I think this team needs to take it forward,” he said. Farioli emphasized that his role is focused on working with the players and helping the club move forward. “My message and the needs for this team in the short term, but also the medium and long term, are very clear. The rest are not my duties. I work with the players, with the guys to keep everybody here. I try to help this club to move forward in a journey that is still very long.”
Farioli also addressed the rumors surrounding right-back Devyne Rensch, who is being heavily linked with a move to AS Roma. Rensch was left out of the starting eleven, and Farioli jokingly said that they had to “close down the airport” to keep him with the club. The Italian manager also expressed his thoughts on the transfer situation, hinting that the club is more focused on selling players than bringing in new talent. “It looks like it's open in one direction and closed in the other,” Farioli said, leaving room for interpretation about the club's transfer strategy.
