Valencia Appoint Carlos Corberan as New Head Coach

Spanish coach Carlos Corberan has been named as the new manager of Valencia, leaving his role at West Brom.

Valencia, currently struggling in LaLiga, have announced the appointment of Carlos Corberan as their new head coach. Corberan, 41, has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Spanish club, marking a new chapter in his managerial career.

Corberan's coaching background is rooted in English football, having spent three years at Leeds United as the Under-23 coach and a key member of Marcelo Bielsa's backroom staff. He then took the reins at Huddersfield Town in 2020, before moving on to West Bromwich Albion, from where he has now joined Valencia.

Carlos Corberan, a 41-year-old Spanish coach with a rich footballing background, has been appointed as the new head coach of Valencia. Interestingly, Corberan has a personal connection with the club, having played for Valencia's youth team during his playing days. He has since gone on to coach several teams, including Olympiacos and West Brom.

Valencia officially announced Corberan's appointment on Tuesday, revealing that he has signed a contract until 2027. “Carlos Corberan becomes the new Valencia CF coach until 2027,” the club stated. Additionally, Valencia confirmed that they had informed West Bromwich Albion FC of their decision to trigger the exit option in Corberan's contract, allowing him to leave the English club. “The club has informed West Bromwich Albion FC of the execution of the exit option stipulated in his contract to leave the English club,” the statement read.

Carlos Corberan takes the reins at Valencia following the dismissal of Ruben Baraja on Monday. Baraja's departure came amidst a dismal run of form, with Valencia languishing second from bottom in the standings, having accumulated only 12 points from 17 league games, with a meager two wins to their name. The team finds itself four points adrift of safety.

Valencia's next match is a daunting one, as they host second-placed Real Madrid on January 3rd. This rescheduled fixture was originally postponed due to flooding last month. The match will provide an early test for Corberan, who will be seeking to inspire a turnaround in Valencia's fortunes.
